An important reminder , written by my client : @thehonestcroissant @aparentlymore This was in a tough moment…a moment when my son had been having an incredibly hard time during family pictures. A moment when instead of yelling and getting frustrated with his lack of cooperation I realized that he needed understanding and connection with me. Judgement wouldn’t have calmed him down. Demanding that he stop crying and comply with my wishes would have done nothing to regulate his nervous system. Bribes were worthless. 🌊 Instead he needed my calm in the midst of his internal storm to quell the waves. And, while I thought we wouldn’t get a single “good” picture from the session, instead I have the gift of this precious moment of connection between us captured. A moment where my son knew that he was more important to me than pictures. A moment where he knew that his hard moments weren’t more than I could handle. A moment when motherhood was challenging but rewarding all at the same time. ☀️Parenting is hard, and I don’t get it right all of the time, but when I do it looks like this!
